Banco de Crédito Móvel · since 1890
A century-old institution,
reorganizing its territory.
Founded in the first days of the Brazilian Republic, BCM has returned to regularize a legacy of land and people of historic proportions in Rio de Janeiro.
Who we are
The institution Brazil almost forgot — and that came back to settle accounts with history.
Banco de Crédito Móvel was founded on 16 October 1890 under Decree No. 165, the first banking law of the Republic. From the outset it acquired vast lands in Rio’s West Zone — today the most valuable neighborhoods in the city. After 117 years of liquidation, it returned in 2018 as BCM Ativos Imobiliários S.A.

The heart of the study
The whole case on a single sheet
A timeline is a list — good for reading, bad for seeing what happens at the same time. The mind map sets the 12 fronts of the case side by side, with 63 lines linking each act to the act it triggered, on a time scale made of facts rather than years.

This drawing of what might one day become BCM’s headquarters has been withdrawn in order to dismantle the absurd argument reportedly being used in lawsuits involving people who never knew of the futuristic vision it expressed. It carries no commitment or act beyond being a simple illustration of what the Company’s headquarters is hoped to become one day.
Transparency & governance
Everything documented, in the light of the law.
BCM’s legal history, the legal opinion that grounds its continuity, the reparation program for affected families (REPHIS) and the housing finance system (SIFH) are open for consultation.
